Meet Talia Josephine "TJ" Wagner, aka Nocturne. She's one of those mutant types.
Specifically, she was raised at Xavier's school by the X-Men of her time/dimension. Which makes sense, given that the field leader is her father.
See, when she was still little, there was this thing where the Shadow King (a psychic villain) took over Wolverine and made him kill Professor Xavier, who crippled Wolverine with a psychic blast as he died. Overcome with remorse and grief, Wolverine determined to take over the school and lead the X-Men. His friend Nightcrawler stayed with him to help and to be field leader. And together they raisedtheir Kurt's daughter (along with Aunt Kate (Pryde) and the Phoenix force (in the body of Colossus)).
Talia grew up with the X-Men presumably because they have a school and the Avengers don't.

How do the Avengers factor into this? Oh, that's her mom's side of the family.

Which makes her grandparents Magneto and Mystique. Family reunions must be so much fun. Ahem.

TJ is sixteen. She plans on joining the X-Men in a couple years, but they'd like her to get a bit more experience and a wider education before putting her on the team. Fandom High sent out a flyer, and it seemed like a good idea, so she's here to finish her schooling. She's a little bummed to be leaving family, but excited for boarding school away from home and out of her dad's shadow. She loves the man, but seriously, she'd like to be her own person, not "Nightcrawler's daughter".
TJ is remarkably level-headed and non-angsty for an X-Man. She likes to joke and use puns, but it's a bit more sedate than, say, Spider-Man - she's cheerful but not a real jokester, and tends to focus during battle.

She keeps her hair long and usually wears it in box braids, though she's been known to try some other fun styles; when not in uniform, she dresses casually in t-shirt and shorts or jeans, including sometimes shirts from her band, the Butt Monkeys. (It's never stated what she plays, but I like to think it's drums.) She's not overly modest, wearing as little as makes sense/she can get away with. It helps her move more easily, and she's unashamed of her body.
Family (blood and found) is super important to her, and she likes to think the best of people, though she's sensibly cautious.
She's got the combat skills of having been brought up in the X-Men (and bitches about the "Men" part of that, yes), and she's also got powers.
TJ was born with her powers and appearance. She looks very similar to her father, with short blue fur, three fingers on each hand and three toes on each foot, pointed ears, yellow eyes, and a prehensile tail, that in the weirdest retcon ever is retractable, because artists kept forgetting whether she had one or not. She also has her father's night vision, agility, balance, and flexible skeleton, making her a better-than-Olympic gymnast.
She can possess another person for up to twelve hours, which then leaves them comatose after for up to a day. Her own body disappears into the possessed person's. Neither she nor the person she's possessed can be telepathically probed during this.

She can fire hex bolts that are "destructive projectiles made up of extradimensional energy from the dimension through which Nightcrawler teleports" and have very minor probability effects that can make them more effective.

She also has some latent telepathy, but it basically just lets her use telepathic equipment like Cerebro; she can't read minds or anything, though if your character is telepathic, she's probably easy to talk to.
